Well a department store does have better predictive powers than most of us provided they actually have an accurate portrait of what their customers do like and what drives their decisions. No idea if this chain does of course.

The games will only be the deciding factor for the hard core gamers. What Microsoft is banking on is what helped prop up PS3 sales....the other things not truly game related. For the PS3 it was a very good Blu-ray player and that did drive sales to the non-hard core gamers. For the Xbox one it is the central technology to the living room theme. If they truly pull it off well it can conceivably pull an entirely different demographic in addition to hardcore gamers.

And let's face it, many of the hard core gamers are going to eventually buy both anyways.
