No heart for Reinhart.

I think Reinhart is unfairly compared to MacKinnon. MacKinnon was supposed to be this generational talent (or near so) and had been followed in anticipation for a couple of years. His past year in junior was 'disappointing' for all the hype, but still good enough to be selected 1st over-all. He is a much better prospect than anything in the past few years - at least from the 'Edmonton years' anyways.

Reinhart I think will end up being a pretty good #1 center. He does it all, and has very high IQ, playmaking ability.

I think this draft class becomes 'normalized' back to the last few drafts before this past 2013 draft. I believe near the top you will still get a very good piece you can build around, not just a piece to support the rebuild. Rankings will change and players will move up and down, but my money is that Reinhart ends up being selected 1st over-all. Hopefully the Flames win the lottery irregardless of where they finish (of course, they would have to finish out of playoff contention).

As for the Flames picking more heavily in D, I don't think they will. I believe they will most likely keep selecting BPA. If they feel two players are essentially tied, if one is a defencemen or a RW, then they will pick by position. I just don't think they will go out and select D if there are forwards more highly rated.

Their stable of D prospects is not that 'great' yet, but it is very much an unknown still. There have been lots of defencemen selected in the first round who carried a lot of hope, only to really have trouble cracking the NHL and had their stock tumble (i.e. Siemens - the guy that Ferland fought in the AHL last week).

I think it is a fairly sound strategy to continue selecting forwards in the 1st round, and then select BPA. However, if the Flames find themselves in a position like Nashville did with Jones falling to them, of course you snatch up Ekblad or McKeown (some feel he is a much better skater and offensively gifted over Ekblad, and could actually displace Ekblad) - as long as the Flames have them ranked ahead of the rest.

Hope the Flames trade with Philly and get a non-lottery protected 1st round pick for whatever they send to them. Imagine potentially having 2 top 5 picks. Would be totally cool getting another highly-touted son of a former Flame again - though let's just pick BPA.
