Monahan Article
Great article in the Herald about Monahan. Recommend you read the whole thing:

Quote:
Sean Monahan turns 19 on Saturday and, just like every other birthday, it’s probably going to be another celebration spent around teammates.
His family — John and Cathy and older sister Jacqueline — are in town from Brampton, Ont., but soon, they’ll have to head home which means he’ll have to resort again to phone calls, texts, and FaceTime. He’s currently living in a hotel room with no car, which is fine by him as his golden-doodle Samson is well taken care of at his parents place. Breakfasts are at the rink, dinners are with teammates, and Calgary is exactly where he wants to be.
But the truth it, it’s a life of limbo right now for the Calgary Flames’ sixth overall 2013 National Hockey League draft pick.
He’s awaiting his fate, enjoying the moment but counting down the days to Game 9 or Game 10 — when general manager Jay Feaster either decides to keep him for the entire 82-game season or send him back to the Ontario Hockey League with the Ottawa 67’s before his entry level contract kicks in.
As father — first and always — John Monahan sighs.
“You just try to have answers for whatever happens,” he was saying the other day. “Because it’s all out of our control, right? Like, I laughed at my son the other day. We were talking and I said (jokingly), ‘Oh, well maybe I’ll call the coach.’ We had a good chuckle about it. But there is no say. Really, we’ve had no say his whole career.
“He just went and played a team game. We just watch and enjoy it and hope things work out.”
