Unfortunately (for the side I'm rooting for)# Cheney has probably had it beaten into him to not act like a harrumphing 8 year-old when his rival is talking (George missed the lesson apparently).

It's funny, I still haven't seen the debate. But I've seen comments from analysts who criticized both candidates for their mannerisms when the other was speaking.

Interesting. George was shaking his head and making sour faces and doodling on a notepad (or making notes possibly). Bad impression.
Kerry reacted in a very coached fashion and pretended to be real diplomatic and thoughtful, nodding (too often I thought) in agreement and mouthing the words "that's true, that's true" and just being Mr. Interested. Bad (but better than George's) impression.
I thought George looked like an idiot who forgot the camera was trained on him at all times, and Kerry looked like an over-acting soap star who knew the camera was trained on him at all times. [/b][/quote]
Agreed. I haven't heard too many news sources trying to even-up the candidates preformance (except for the obvious ones). Seems most think it was a Win for Kerry, maybe not a homerun, but at least a good hit.
Bush looked like a caricature of himself on the cutaway shots. Kerry just looked like he was writing a lot. The image award from that debate (if that's important to you) definitely goes to Kerry.
