For me the "On The Line" piece is the team's reputation. Knowing that the Flames don't have the star power to push for the playoffs, the team has to establish an identity in the first 20 games.

Are they going to be hard to play against?
Are they going to be a stingy defense-first team, that makes opponents actually earn their goals and wins?
Or are they going to be more of a free-wheeling "young guns" team that will be exciting to watch but struggle to translate that skill into wins (ie. the Oilers of the last 3-4 years)?

That's what is on the line for the first quarter of the season - telling the world who they are and what they are going to be all about this year.
