I don't know how you counter that penalty wise. Grappling has always been part of hockey fights. We don't see the Bobby Nystrom style fight where both fighters just lean back and fire.
I'm convinced that part of the problem is that yes fighters and hockey players are MMA training. I'm also convinced that jersey tiedowns need to be more forgiving as unlike in my day you can really control a guy with a tied down jersey.
Maybe its an additional 2 minute roughing penalty if you grab below the waist?
I wasn't upset about the fight so much because it is how players fight nowdays but there has to be a preventative penalty to stop the MMA take downs.
