Calgary is actually much, much more than just horses and cowboy hats, and everything "western". The sooner people embrace that, the better off this city will be. I hate that so many people want to pigeonhole the city and all its citizens into that identity. It holds the city back.

I, for the record dislike the idea of a Calgary Flag jersey or the western mock ups we've seen on here so far. I wouldn't be against the Flames incorprating some sort of a western feel to their jersey if done right though.
But as someone else answered, exactly what does the "Western" image of that this city perpertuates "hold us back" from? I can't think of a single thing it prevents for the city of Calgary or it's citizens. In fact, the western image of this city factually "creates" benefits for this city, not because the image in infact is "western", but because this city actually has an identifiable image (manufactured or legitimate, doesn't matter) that many of the citizens and more importantly outsiders embrace. Tones of economic benefit and therefore opportunities created for this city and it's people through that image, which is the exact opposite of being "held back".
