I remember when playing minor hockey we'd all go around acting like tough guys because there was no consequences. You could target their best player and not worry about anything at all. In fact you could be dirty and slash them or spear, and worst case you're in the box for 2 mins. More than one occassion this resulted in a 'star' player getting hurt or not being anywhere near as affective.

Then, into the junior aged leagues it was a different ball game. There were consequences. You could play hard and aggressive but you had to pay a price and that price meant dropping the gloves every now and then. You knew that going after their star player meant they'd be coming for you, and right away. So in a way it allowed the star players to do what they're best at.

Tough tough call, as there have been some avoidable injuries due to fights. However, if there are 100 fights how many result in a serious injury like we saw with Parros? I'm not sure but it can't be many.

Fighting will be gone eventually and thats a sad thought to me. Not because I like the entertainment value but it reminds me what it's like to be on the ice. It really is like going to battle.

I also think that once fighting is eliminated it wont stop there. They'll continue to try and remove violence from what is an inherently violent game.
