One significant thing changed in the last month. Hartley has a new boss.
I don't expect anything earth shattering in the first game of the season but I am sure that it will be expected that Hartley shows progression with the young players on the team.
If Monahan turns out to be our best faceoff guy, I highly doubt that your are correct about him being kept off of the PK. Winning faceoffs is too huge of a factor of a successful PK.

It really is to early to harp on the coach. You guys have thrown him into the street before there is even a bus for him to go under. Hartley has effectively used rookies in the past and I doubt he is blind to the direction of the team.
Its time to set reasonable expectations. The rookies will get sheltered minutes to start and Monahan in particular will likely get tested in secondary special team duties to see if he should stay with the Flames past his 9 game stint. As the season progresses, expect their roles to gradually increase until the trade deadline when we likely lose a veteran or 3.
