Flames vs Detroit in the '04 playoffs. Are you kidding me? I personally put down a bet against the Wings just because I didn't think they were capable of withstanding Calgary's relentless forecheck and physical play, but Detroit's talent compared to the Flames was almost like comparing an NHL team to a decent Junior team. Flames made that run from good coaching, chemistry, and probably a bit of swagger/intimidation thrown in as well. Yes - Kipper, Iginla, Regehr - they were instrumental as well, but it was NOT talent that got that club to a phantom goal's breath of Lord Stanley.
If it was talent as you say, then the NYR should have been a fantastic dynasty all throughout the 90's and the early part of the 2000's. They bought all the talent their hearts could desire, and only once winning the cup.
Ideally, the most talented club with the least amount of injuries, the most chemistry, the most leadership, the best coaching, and the best luck end up winning the cup. Talent is important, but talent alone just wins you more coverage, expectations and possibly a few more tickets sold at the gate.

Chemistry can help, although I think bad chemistry kills team a lot more than good chemistry helps, but chemistry is nothing without talent.
Nashville has done not a whole lot and had great players in Weber, Suter, Rinne, Vokoun with a great coach. The Flames again had great talent in 04 in Iginla and Kipper, they don't beat the Red Wings with the same or better chemistry and replacing Iggy/Kipper with Stempniak/Ramo.
The Rangers seem to have bigger issues with fit than chemistry. Having big names isn't a road to success. I am not sure I have heard a ton of issues they have had in terms of chemistry.
It was most definitely talent that got the Flames to the Cup finals and a goal that was in from winning the Cup. Again take Iggy and Kipper off the team all the happiness and buddy/buddy feelings in the world get them a top 5 pick that year.
