Often, whenever large companies contract out jobs to smaller contractors they'll require that contractor be GST registered regardless of their gross income.

Basically, the big company doesnt want to screw around with what GST was paid on and what it wasnt in terms of their own records, they want it to be easy so all their contracts include GST.
