Yeah, I'm not sure of the legalities of it, being a guy, I've never needed to think about it.
When you talk to her, make sure that she doesn't have anything on her person that could be used as a weapon against her. Do the usual safety stuff until you know what happens with this mutt. Make sure she parks in a well lit area in a public place. Make sure that she sticks to well traveled areas.
Chances are this guy is fairly harmless, but its better to be cautious.
