You're comparing apples to orangutans.
If anything, another free agent off the market increases the value of players that provide similar contributions. Morrow isn't an option any more for any other teams, not to mention that teams looking at Morrow are looking at different types of contributions than what Stempniak offers.

St.L is a very likely playoff team..... that won't have room for Stempniak at the trade deadline. They have already added Morrow basically so they have enough guns in the playoffs if they run into the Kings in the 1st round again. I am pretty sure they didn't get Morrow because they feel that he will move them from the playoff bubble area to a high playoff seed.
Cammalleri, for instance, might have his trade value sky-rocket at the trade deadline as he has shown he can be a difference maker in a playoff series.
If a team thinks that Stempniak is their missing piece that gets them into the playoffs or into round 2 are 2010-11 Flames desperate and disillusioned. Not many team historically that have been that desperate and disillusioned.
