A contract like RNH's will take away the motivation for some players. Regardless of how hard he trains, how many points he scores, after his ELC, he'll be making $6M for the following 7 seasons. He has nothing to prove. Hell, he didn't prove much before the contract and he still made $6M per.

Players who are competitors play with heart no matter the situation. Look at Hall last season or Crosby any season. Name any number of players. If a player plays strictly based on where he is on his contract; well those guys wind up on other teams pretty quickly anyways...
