The Vanek deal, you'll recall, was done under some pretty crazy circumstances that involved Lowe giving him a bit more via offer sheet in order to try to pry him out of Buffalo. And while it wasn't a steal, he's certainly provided 7M in value to the Sabres in terms of his scoring. The team has sucked, but that's not really his fault. He'll probably get about 7 again when he goes UFA this summer.

Also out of all the 2nd deals how many got long term deal 6 or more?
Vanek, Malkin, Crosby, Toews, Backstrom, Kane, Stamkos, Hall and now RNH
Other than the 2 Oilers, Vanek and Backstrom the other guys listed are much better and definitely more proven players at the time the deals were signed and RNH has a long ways to go before he is in their league

Seriously? This is just nonsense. Some of those deals were signed 7 or 8 years ago. The salary cap world is entirely different than it was then, and in 7 years it'll be vastly different than it is now. This is like saying the Oilers got a screaming good deal on Gretzky in the 80's because he got paid even less than they're paying Andrew Gordon now. I mean, come the *@% on.
