I just don't understand all the teams who seem to be in a rush to sign extensions a full year in advance.
For some players it might make sense because you expect him to have a break out year, so you want to get him signed long term at a lower rate or if he's a star player who is a pending UFA who has said he'll go to free-agency if he starts the season without an extension.
For a player like RNH, who will only be an RFA at season's end (without arbitration rights either), rushing an extension makes no sense. Last year, we saw a lot of these signings because no one knew what things would look like after the lockout, but it doesn't make sense this year.
