Not knowing the case at all, from what I can gather it was a woman suffering from Post Partum Depression and receiving treatment. The treatment itself was not successful and unfortunately there were three people who died as a result. I don't know if that is the health care system failing, or just the fact that no treatment program is 100% effective. After that she did spend time in a psychiatric hospital as part of the court ruling, however when she was released, she was deported. As you would expect with someone who was found guilty of manslaughter.
Frankly at that point in time sending her back to Australia to be closer to her family and support systems may have been the most humanitarian thing to do.
Edit: I fully believe she is a victim, not of the health care system, but rather of a debilitating disease.
