I think the key question regarding the jersey design for the Flames is whether to keep black. It was introduced, as far as I remember in mid 90s and there were some rumours at the time about the black color being associated with more aggression.
I remember former Flames assistant coach Slavomir Lener saying that in 90s some NHL teams (notably Minnesota, New Jersey and Calgary) added black color to their uniforms just because of this factor. Some recent studies tend to confirm this e.g.

Regardless of the truthfulness of that speculations (not to mention the fact that tough players like McGrattan will kick opponent's asses even if dressed in pink pajamas), I'd personally keep black (for me it makes jerseys look sharper), but make it less dominant (compared to our current home uniforms).
