I enjoy the idea that the Flames will give a roster spot to one if not two prospect skaters to start the season, the question is who? Let's say it's Ferland because CP posters are impressed with his turnaround/development jump over the off season; it sounds like Ferland has practiced some NHL quality offensive zone rattle & shakes and has the talent to finish his opportunities, so with over-the-top optimism lets say he becomes a dark horse Calder candidate. With so many other guys within the organization chomping at the bit knowing they could play at ___Ferland's____ level it could drive a very competitive streak in all of our horses. Baertschi's still qualifies for the Calder I think (he should be a favorite if I was on a panel) and Granlund looks like he's outgrown junior level competition, so it sets a bar for up and coming talent that isn't just 'organizationally' good, it's legit NHL good. As a fan, this is what I'm hoping for.
