Yeah, one of the reasons I was excited about this upcoming announcement was the possibility of a lower cost iPhone. In Canada the tide is shifting and making it more feasible to ignore contracts from Telus, Bell or Rogers and own your device outright. If you got with a new contract from these guys now you will lose your old plan. I was hoping we'd see an iPhone that makes sense to buy outright and bring it to the carrier, thus giving yourself more options and even if you want to stay with your current provider, allowing you to keep your older plan.
I was very disappointed to see the lower cost one be.. not really one at all. I think that's where the mark was missed. I know Apple likes to see themselves as a premium brand, and that's fine if they do, but there was a real opportunity here that was missed in my opinion.
