Two points on here:

In the foreign markets the contract price is non-existent. This is why Apple has not taken over the foreign markets yet and I don't think the $100 difference between the 5S and 5C is going to make a difference is the foreign markets.

If the 5C was supposed to be the cheap device to help them in foreign markets I don't think the price was accurate for the market.

There are two types of consumers in the North American cell phone market: A)Those willing to pay for their phone, and B)Those that want a zero dollar phone.

In the last year since the launch of the iPhone 5, the iPhone 4 ($0) and the iPhone 5 ($179) were the top sellers from the Apple line. The $99 iPhone 4S was not a big seller except for when it was on promo for $0.

Granted the difference between the 4 and 4S is smaller then the difference between the 4S and 5C (IMO) so that might help them but all I really think the 5C is going to do is cannibalize the the 5S market. The people that want the $0 phone will get the 4S, and the people that are willing to spend money on their phone will decide between the 5C (more fun, color options) and the 5S (better performance).
