Henrik Sedin gave something of a brief outline of the way the contract extension negotiations between he, his brother Daniel, and the Canucks are proceeding, indicating that their Calgary-based agent J.P. Barry is talking about a deal that would see them finish their NHL careers here in Vancouver.

You can read length of term into that, likely meaning they are trying for a three-year deal at the very least and perhaps more, the club probably more focused on a lesser length.

“We’ve had one meeting and talks are going to continue through training camp and we’ll see what happens,” said Henrik, with Daniel sitting right beside him on a podium erected by the team. “Hopefully we can get something that would see us finish our careers here in Vancouver.”

“We want to stay, everyone knows that, so we’ll see what happens,” added Daniel.

The twins are entering the final year of their contract, which calls for each of them to make $6.1 million per season, and it is expected they will take a cut going forward, how much of one obviously a significant part of the discussion as well.

Sounds like both parties would like to have it out of the way by the time the season begins Oct. 3.
