Is O'Reilly a guy to build the franchise around? If the Flames think so then paying a large price to get him and signing him to a big long term contract isn't out of the question.

Personally I think O'Reilly could be a core guy once you already have your Duchene, Tavares, Toews, etc. But the Flames aren't there yet. I think giving up the assets and paying that type of salary when you don't have any other core pieces ready is the wrong thing to do.
You can take him to arbitration to lower his QO to 5.1M or something like that. If we could get him for that, ROR-Monahan down the middle would be solid.
