Gitzo carbon fiber tripods are the best on the semi-pro/advanced amateur market and they range from very light to very heavy-duty. They will cost you anywhere between $600 to $1,200 new at Vistek. Or, if you are patient, you can find a used one on e-bay for half-price. Traveler and Mountaneer series are super good.

for someone that isn't a pro I'm not spending more than150 on a tripod
