I think GGG made a strong point when he mentioned that you're being paranoid about the wrong things. Humans in general are absolutely terrible at assessing risk. We stay up at night wondering if a crazed sexual predator is going to steal our kids from their beds, but we have no problem glancing at our phone while on the Deerfoot.

In this particular case, cold sores aren't transferrable to the point that you need to be concerned. In all likelihood a server with a scratchy throat is going to have a far great chance of impacting your life in a negative way. The cook that uses the chicken that's been in the fridge for 7 days is also a much bigger problem.

It's visually off-putting, but that's about it. I'm in the same boat as others in the thread in that I get them from time to time and despite doing the majority of cooking/dishwashing in our house my wife has never gotten one.
