Watching them, I get a distinct feeling that perhaps they're peaking too early. It's really hard to sustain that level of effort for 4 pre-season games, 16 regular season games and then the playoffs. Last year's SB champs are a good example of a team that peaked (and got lucky) at the right time.

I'm not sure why you'd include 4 pre-season games. Most of the guys who will see the field in week 17 didn't touch it tonight.
Pre-season games are about individual and small unit performances. QB decision making, LB reads, OL communication etc. Attempting to break down a pre-season game beyond that is just silly.
