There are sharks but I was always more worried about the crocs. I have seen them about 100 m out in the ocean, but I know they swim way further out.

I spent most of my time in San Jose and Jaco. I am a lousy surfer and prefer snakes over fish so I try to stay on the beach. People surf in Jaco, I just don't know how good it is.
