While we're on the subject of mediocre players from big clubs living off their reputation, how about Rio Ferdinand? He's nothing but a big bully and is a terrible distributor of the ball. He's very lucky to be playing alongside the best centre half in the league, Vidic. In the match yesterday against Chelsea, there were at least three instances when under no pressure at all, he bombed a long ball down the wings that went straight to a Chelsea full back or over the goal line. He's a terrible player for a club with aspirations of winning the league and going far in the CL.
Now, watch everyone get upset and tell me how great of a player he is, despite the fact that to even a neutral observer of the game, he's become a very limited player in his advanced years and will likely be replaced by this time next year. A player like Ashley Williams is far superior in all facets of the game, but because Rio Ferdinand plays for Manchester United, people think he's great.
