This is just down right not true. Throughout its history, the Olympics has been about political and social issues. There have been political boycotts, terrorist attacks, human rights disputes. The Olympics are and always have been about the coming together of nations to celebrate the high achievement of humanity and the right of all nations to celebrate their national identity amongst all nations. With that comes the attention to the broader conversations facing our world and our various societies. Sports is the forum for this kind of unity and celebration to take place, but it is far from the only thing that the Olympics are about.

I would fully support a patch of this kind. But there is zero chance this will ever happen. Hockey players are professionals, and I would expect them to be the least likely to make a stand on a social issue.
