Denver and Salt Lake are the go-to choices for sure....however, I found that the Twin Cities (and Minnesota in general) felt very similar to what you get in Alberta as well, just on a bigger scale. To me it always felt like what would happen if you combined Calgary and Edmonton into one city (and added some more cosmopolitan flavor). I think it's quite the hidden gem in the US.
