Alfy's words today, not quoting because I don't have time, was he wanted to renegotiate a contract extension last season that paid him to compensate for the low actual pay of last season. What he is conveniently forgetting is he was paid all his money up front in the first 3 years, with the supposed agreement he wasn't going to play the last year and somewhere along the line he changed his mind and decided to play. Again what I see, and this is only me, is another player forgetting what he has been paid before and basically telling the team - Screw you I want to be paid, I don't care how it affects the other guys. I agree with the owner saying to the GM we have X number of dollars to spend and don't exceed it.

There are no players in any sport that take discounts to play for anyone. Fans and the press talk about a guy signing because he wants to win a cup (excluding Hossa who chased his cup) or play close to home is bunk. They all sign wherever the team pays them the most.

I like how the new CBA deals with the cap diving deals and term, pay them whatever is negotiated and count it all against the cap. This is why you are seeing 8yr deals for $8M per year instead of the old cap circumventing deals. No matter what anyone thinks about Iggy he was paid, and counted against the cap, at $7M every year. Iggy always stayed in Calgary because he knew the owners would pay to the cap to try and build a winner, pay him market value and as soon as they told him they needed to rebuild then he agreed to waive his NMC. Everyone agrees the Flames waited at least 2 years too long to move Iggy but they couldn't because he wouldn't waive.
