This team has a chance to follow the 2012-13 Flames as one of the few teams to spend to the cap and miss the playoffs.
Hope the Flames follow the Islanders example and only give big contracts to proven players and not take the best case scenario of the player getting better over the next 5 years.

Except the are young with room to improve and Mackinnon isn't just an average player added into the mix. Throw in O'Rielly holding out and Landeskog getting hurt they also could be a top team in the next couple years. If they miss the playoffs they will add another top prospect. Time is on their side...not so much for pre rebuild Flames teams
I look at them vs the Oilers and see a better future in Colorado by quite a bit. Much better down the middle. Have players who bring different skills to the table and have better contracts to this point
