The Calgary Sports Convention is going to be an original event, as it is the first convention of this kind to come to the country of Canada, let alone the city of Calgary. There will be an opportunity for attendees to see trade exhibits from various companies that live and breathe within the industry.
Some of the various categories/groups that will be on display include:
- sporting goods retailers and manufacturers
- recreational and outdoor sports
- high school and college athletics
- sports marketing businesses
- sports-governing bodies (local, provincial and federal)
- sports apparel
- professional leagues
- sports memorabilia and collectibles
There will also be a special "Speaker Session" component to the weekend, where guest speakers from various backgrounds will speak on a topic of interest.
Finally, some celebrities will be present for the convention, including a lot of former stars, as well as some current stars, who will be available for photo opportunities and autographs throughout the weekend.

Anybody going? I just came across it this morning -- it is a three day show (Aug 16 to 18) at the BMO Centre that is being held in a similar format to the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. Fleury will be there on Sunday; some other notable names include Bret Hart, David Justice, Robbie Alomar, and the one and only, Cedric Ceballos
