Post now this is a dedicated hockey team

Interesting story in the Sun this morning about how the Montana Tech hockey team is run. The players themselves, mostly from Alberta, are carrying the whole thing while studying. Incredible dedication.

Quote:
Built largely on the backs of city slickers and rural Albertan farmboys, a grassroots hockey program is taking shape in Butte, Montana.
Nestled in the rolling hills of Silver Bow County is Montana Tech, an unassuming technical institute known more for its volleyball teams than hockey prowess.
But dozens of Albertans — and a few other Canucks — are trying to change that, thanks mostly to the school recognizing SAIT and NAIT’s petroleum engineering diplomas as almost the equivalent to the first two years of its degree program.

As a student-run club, the players pay for their own travel expenses, often renting three suburbans and hauling gear in a trailer behind to nearby states for games.
They clean the stands at the Butte arena and sell popcorn out of the concession to keep the team afloat. They even flood the arena’s ice on a zamboni.
