Slightly off topic, but Ingonosh is awesome. There are a number of cabins you can rent. I've stayed at both the Ingonish Chalets or Sleepy Hollow.

The beforementioned windy road is the Cabot Trail. Depending on the publication it's the number one drive in North America.

Golf is amazing here too. Again depending on the publication Highlands Links is the top course in the country; depending on the publication Cabot Links is the top course in the country. That said Bell Bay holds its own. That also doesn't speak of The Lakes, Portage, or Dundee.

Hiking is fantastic here as well.

I could go on forever about this place. If anyone is ever coming to Cape Breton and want ideas or a tour let me know I'm more than happy to oblige.

And don't forget about the Fortress of Louisbourg, it makes the Halifax Citadel look like child's play. The reconstruct is 1/3rd done and its the largest historical reconstruct in North America. It'll take your full day and bring a sweater.

There is now full year service from Sydney to Toronto in addition to the 3x daily seasonal service, and 6 flights from Halifax. With WestJet Encore coming east in a few years you should see prices fall.
