Well, Its not so much that there is finite space for memories and new ones push old ones out. Its more that memory isn't very reliable to begin with and as we attach less importance to them, or they become less relevant, we simply don't put effort into remembering them. Course that could be part of what you said too. Memories, unless it's something amazingly important or traumatic do fade. Do we become different? Maybe that's part of the equation of aging. Not just experience and perspective, but because we are actually 'overwriting' who we are.
