They are pretty much both the same from a performance standpoint, in my experience.
The main problem I have with Shaw's Cisco routers is that they are resistant to changing any settings on them, like subnets, SSID or passwords. Not that it won't let you change them, but things work really poorly or not at all, after you make those changes. Never tried the same thing with an Actiontec or SMC router to know if the same issue exists there as well.
