Crank the valve at the meter (some might have a pad lock mine doesn't), turn on your gas fireplace and furnace for 15 minutes to burn some of the gas off. Crack off the plug and pop the valve on. Now hook up your BBQ and turn on the gas for 5 minutes or so to purge it, then shut it off. Give it another 5 to fully dissipate into the atmosphere, turn it back on and light the BBQ and voila.
