But, some people wanted to go for the futuristic look.

Cars like the Element and Aztec were not about the "futuristic look". quite the contrary, they were designed to be as versatile and multifunctional as possible, which in many essences forgoes looks for functionality. The Element isn't my bag visually, but it's actually quite a useful little vehicle, and considering its Honda quality, it can't be all bad.
Interesting - I had no idea. Do you happen to know (off hand) the capabilities? [/b][/quote]
well, in the Elements case many of its best features lie in its ability to reshape the interior to many variations ( it has over 60 seating and cargo configurations ). Side cargo doors with no B-pillar open from the center and allow for easy loading of bulky items. For sports gear like mountain bikes, snowboards, surfboards and other equipment, the rear seats flip to the side to create a vast cargo area. Seatback bungee cords allow equipment like skateboards to be stored behind the seats. The rear seats also lay flat to form a bed with the front seats, or can be removed entirely. The clamshell rear tailgate bottom opens down - creating room for two to sit - while the upper part of the tailgate opens up and creates a canopy. It has a removable skylight as well, which is rather cool I think.

I think its actually a pretty good vehicle for people who like going outdoors ( you know, as opposed to the people with the Escalades who just like to pretend they do ). Its fairly small in size, but really big inside and as has been said, really versatile for outdoor gear. Its not pretty, but it certainly does its job and is lot more utilizable than most SUV's. And considering it starts under 20 grand, thats not half-ass bad.

As for the Aztec.....ugh, lets not get into that. Its a horrendous car, even if it tried to be versatile.
