“I wanted to be signed before camp started," Brodie said. "The end of June, early July is a busy time for both sides, so being a restricted free agent and stuff, I knew I just had to be patient and knew we'd get a chance to talk and figure it out.

“I was pretty open to anything, whether it was long-term or short-term," Brodie continued. "I want to stay in Calgary and be there. I like the city and fans, but it's a matter of what they wanted to offer and what my agent thought was a good deal. I took everything into account.”

“It's always in the back of your mind when it's not done," said Brodie of signing the contract. "Your first contract, you don't know how much negotiations go into it, so I didn't really know what to expect or a time-frame to expect.

“Now that it's done, I can completely focus on getting ready for the season.”
