I wouldn't be too concerned with burning an year on his ELC, simply because playing him this year allows you to stagger what might end up as big contract renewals for him, Gaudreau, perhaps the next year first round pick.

There are a lot of strategies in play, and if you can shelter him a bit this year while he adjust to the speed of the NHL game, then that works out nicely.

I think the first year, we should temper our expectations, but not fear that he plays in the NHL.
