Pork rind or Scratchings as they call them over here are still very popular, although I think they may be prepared a bit differently. Every pub has them and really what's not to like about little bacon bite type things? Yes they are high in fat and sodium, but they are generally sold in small portions so you don't really over do it.
They are a great expedition food as they don't spoil and have a high energy content.
If they are good enough to bring to the poles they are good enough for me.
