I would be really disappointed if they rolled out another Sith threat. It would literally take an atomic dump over everything established in the first 6 movies, and to me it would be incredibly lazy. Its a massive galaxy of Lore, there are probably 100's of other credible threats out there.
You could have resurgent Madalorians for example. During their old republic war they completely fought the jedi to a stand still.
you can have alien threats, pirate threats, Imperial threats.
Just don't bring back Palpatine, or Vader or some long dead Sith Lord, it would be lazy writing.
The Sith lineage died out when Vader threw Palpatine into the furnace. Two there are no more no less, one to embody power and one to crave it. The Sith became incredibly powerful because they spent thousands of years hiding, spinning their webs and relearning the force, they evolved and changed in secrecy with the idea of the the master teaching the apprentice til the apprentice became more powerful then the master and then killing the master and taking his place while grooming a new apprentice.
I know in the EU they completely pooped on what to me was a very cool order by adding secret apprentices and students like Starkiller and others.
But bringing in another Sith means that Anakin didn't bring balance to the force, that the rule of two and the ascension of power meant absolutely nothing. Just like bringing back Palpatine as a clone not once but twice was dumb.
The idea of transference was lost sometime between the fall of Darth Zannah and Plageous.
Even the concept of immortality was suppossed to be a selfless act and out of the reach of the Sith. Something that was kinda pooped on in the EU and in the Old Republic game.
