Not only that, but Walt paid for Hank's medical bills. Not sure how Hank could take Walt down without implicating himself. At the very least, he would lose his job the same way his predecessor did. I think he makes a deal with Walt to leave NM and never come back, which sends Walt into hiding, only to have something happen to Jessie involving the drug cartels which brings Walt out of hiding a year later to save him (hence that future scene where he buys the gun).
