I think trading Brodie would be a terrible idea.
Not because he's some kind of hockey Jesus or anything, but just because defencemen usually take 6-8 years after their draft to really hit their stride. Brodie was drafted 5 years ago, he's come along faster than most expected, and he's just making a mark in the NHL now.
Even if the Flames draft some prime defenders next year, they probably won't be at their peaks until the 2020-2022 time frame.
Brodie is the only impact defender the Flames have in an age bracket that is crucial to the rebuild.
