Well, you're right....and that's why I was hedging about getting specific.

What happened to the perpetrator is found in the first link. He's in prison for a whopping 6 more years if he gets good behavior.

We're watching them closely, but so far they have dealt with it remarkably well. We moved out of the neighborhood and the shcool district in August of last year as you might know when our house was finished. So I think that may have helped. They aren't afraid to be alone or anything.

What's remarkable about the whole ordeal is that my daughter is probably responsible for the guy releasing them and my son is definitely responsible for getting the guy caught. He was 8 at the time and the description of the guy and the vehicle were bang on. He also got the guy's name off of his work ID which was hanging from the rear-view mirror. When he was being interviewed, the detectives were skeptical of that because the guy's name is Delvis (not exactly a normal sounding name especially when they knew he had a heavy hispanic accent) but that piece of information was what caught the guy on the same day this happened. My son refused to let his sister go alone. Might have played a big role in how it turned out as well.

We were crucified in the local media for being bad parents even though they had no clue who we were. I denied a dozen interview requests because I knew what would come with it. That's part of the reason I didn't want to say anything here. Humans are awfully judgemental beings.

Most of the trauma for us as a family happened that day. I went to the trial (he plead guilty) and the sentencing hearing where the judge threw out his plea agreement (he would've been out in 3 or 4 years with it). So that wasn't much fun. We were lucky. My wife didn't know what happened until they were safe (they were gone for about an hour) and there was, as I said, about a 10 minute period where I knew they had been taken and didn't know where they were (they were safe at this time) someone figured out that I didn't know that and finally told me....morons.
