There are a lot of players who some consider to be good enough for the NHL while others think they are not. These guys are considered fringe NHL players. A lot of times its about getting an opportunity and being a good fit for the team. Take a guy like Cam Barker. High draft pick, can move the puck and play on the PP, over 300 games of NHL experience, different teams have acquired him but is terrible defensively. Good enough for the NHL? Was he ever? Then you have a guy like Weaver. Who seriously thought he was a solid NHL defenseman until he was like 30? Personally I think Butler is a 6th and 7th guy in the NHL who lacks that one attribute that would make him a solid NHL defenseman that every team would like to have. On this team he fits well enough to have a role but lets not forget Butler plays on a bad team. How many teams that made the playoffs last season would have Butler in their top 5 or even top 6?
