I think you might be correct with regards to some opinions being swayed by the trade, but I think most have the ability to evaluate without that playing on their minds.
We've all been able to watch Butler in every situation for a couple years now, and I will speak for most in saying he's just horribly inconsistent, and when push comes to shove and someone needs to make a key play, do NOT count on Butler to do it. He has NHL talent, but horrible hockey sense. Always in the wrong place at the wrong time. He'll be replaced either this season or next season unless he shows massive improvement.
BTW, I still look at the Regehr trade as nothing more than a $7 mill salary dump move.
