I truly hope I haven't fallen on the much respected Erick Estrada scale... But I'm willing to take my chances oh great arrogant lord of thy hockey.

Jay Bouwmeester was a top 2 defenseman. Brodie has played a lot of sheltered minutes and while he certainly looks competent there is nothing in his game that stands out. I think I am being pretty generous saying he looks to have a future of a top 4 defenseman. Top 2 is what I would call overly optimistic which is fine but I haven't seen anything from him that indicates he posesses elite offensive or shutdown skills. You are entitled to you opinion though and you just may be right if he gets a lot better.
As far as Butler we all know that he's never going to be an elite player or a top pairing guy but he's a good skater that is competent that makes only $1.7 million. Every team in the league needs those guys in their depth chart. If you never saw him play and simply used CP as a barometer you would think he was the worst defenseman to ever play in the NHL. A guy that's responsible for every goal scored when he's on the ice. Part of this is due to typical internet mob mentality where a few posters pile on a player they don't like and then others simply follow. The other part is that some posters simply don't know hockey well enough to actually spot a good or bad player.
Loot at the Phaneuf hate. If you dislike a player enough it's easy to convince yourself that he's much worse a player than he actually is.
