Well that just isn't true at all. Lake Placid held the Winter Olympics twice with a 50 year gap in between the dates (1932 and 1980).
In the Summer Olympics London (3X - 1908, 1948, 2012), Athens (1896, 2004) and Los Angeles (1932, 1984).
The fact is that a city hosting the Olympics twice is very rare and I don't think holding onto an expensive building to maintain would be a good use of funds, especially if done out of the hope of an Olympic games in the future.

Two other cities also hosted the winters twice.
I'm not saying that we should hold on to a building just for the sake of the olympics, I'm just saying there is a very real chance that we get the winter games again within our lifetimes (Well maybe not some of you guys

).
Winter games have a lot less options for host cities when you consider that they have to rotate the games around the world. Especially if they keep growing in size, popularity and # of events.
